Foibe 
In recent years, Italy has developed a dangerous tendency to rewrite history in terms of separating the facts from their context. This phenomenon is perhaps the most ferocious attack on the very meaning of history, because doing so will make a generalization and a show of reality, without understanding the complexity of the elements that compose it. The story of Foibe is perhaps the most telling of all this effort. They were actually a real organized massacre, especially from the gun People's Liberation of Yugoslavia, during and after the Second World War, but also the result of a policy known as "the opposite of nationalism" and violence in the territories of Fascist Italy Dalmatian and Venezia Gulia. Often the contrast between historical and otherwise, has been reduced to proponents of the "true facts" on the one hand, and supporters of the "ideological truths" on the other. Both positions however still do not understand that the facts in context does not mean acquiring a partial truth, but closer to understanding them. The years of Foibe were indeed years when there was a violent clash between the expansionist ambitions of Fascist Italy on the one hand, and the growth of the spirit of revenge and the other Yugoslav nationalism. The sense of this contrast is evident in the words of Mussolini: "Faced with an inferior race and barbaric as the Slavic do not follow the policy that gives the sugar, but that of the stick. [...] The frontiers of Italy should be the Brenner, the Snowy and the Dinaric: I think we can sacrifice the Slav barbarians 500,000 to 50,000 Italian ", And in those of Louis Vulicevic, a member of the Yugoslav Party Dalmatian:" The nationality does not exist in Italian Dalmatia, the Venetians in their long domination could not insert it. Those who argue in Dalmatia be of Italian nationality, or do not know the province, or find interest in what to say. " These elements, is not insignificant, it should be added that the disputed territories in those years became the symbol of the struggle between Nazi fascism and socialism, and automatically loads of meanings. The violence of which all parties were stain, did grow in the local population a growing political mutual-ethnic hatred, and it is within this framework that should be added to and including events related to the sinkholes. Contextualizing not justify means, but simply show all the elements that composed the reality of time. The court will rely on the subjectivity of individuals, but should not be the first concern of a historian, and all those who make historical information. To them, and today even journalists who recklessly deal with it, has the difficult task of reconstructing the times in which the events took place and to give readers the basis on which to form their own opinion. Not fulfill this important task would be to deny the very meaning of history, namely that "to understand the past, analyze the present and predict the future."
